What is the significance of measuring the actual viscosity of engine fuel?
1) As an indicator of the tendency of engine fuel to generate gum during use. Usually, the higher the actual gum content of engine fuel, the greater the amount of sediment formed during use in the engine. Especially when the actual gum exceeds a certain amount, it will cause an increase in carbon deposition in the fuel supply system, piston, and combustion chamber.
2) As one of the control indicators for the oxidation stability of engine fuel during storage. Due to the different raw materials used in the production process, the content of various chemical components in engine fuel, and storage conditions, the stability also varies accordingly.
Method Summary
The known amount of sample is evaporated under the condition of controlled temperature, air or steam flow. If the sample is aviation fuel, the residue obtained shall be weighed and reported in mg/100mL. If it is motor gasoline, weigh the residue of n-heptane pre extraction and post extraction separately, and report the results in mg/100mL.
Select the corresponding operating conditions of motor gasoline or aviation fuel according to the data provided in the above figure. Heat the evaporation bath to the specified operating temperature, introduce air or steam into the device, and adjust to the specified flow rate. If an external preheater is used, adjust the temperature of the evaporating medium to reach the specified temperature in the test hole.
